HVAC (pronounced either "H-V-A-C" or "H-vak") is an initialism or acronym that stands for "heating, ventilating, and air conditioning". HVAC is sometimes referred to as climate control and is particularly important in the design of medium to large industrial and office buildings such as skyscrapers and in marine environments such as aquariums, where humidity and temperature must all be closely regulated while maintaining safe and healthy conditions within. In certain regions (e.g., UK) the term "Building Services" is also used, but may also include plumbing and electrical systems. Refrigeration is sometimes added to the field's abbreviation as HVAC&R or HVACR, or ventilating is dropped as HACR (such as the designation of HACR-rated circuit breakers).

Heating, ventilating, and air conditioning is based on the principles of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer, and on inventions and discoveries made by Michael Faraday, Willis Carrier, Reuben Trane, James Joule, William Rankine, Sadi Carnot, and many others. The invention of the components of HVAC systems went hand-in-hand with the industrial revolution, and new methods of modernization, higher efficiency, and system control are constantly introduced by companies and inventors all over the world.

The three functions of heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning are closely interrelated. All seek to provide thermal comfort, acceptable indoor air quality, and reasonable installation, operation, and maintenance costs. HVAC systems can provide ventilation, reduce air infiltration, and maintain pressure relationships between spaces. How air is delivered to, and removed from spaces is known as room air distribution.

In modern buildings the design, installation, and control systems of these functions are integrated into one or more HVAC systems. For very small buildings, contractors normally "size" and select HVAC systems and equipment. For larger buildings where required by law, "building services" designers and engineers, such as mechanical, architectural, or building services engineers analyze, design, and specify the HVAC systems, and specialty mechanical contractors build and commission them. In all buildings, building permits and code-compliance inspections of the installations are the norm.

The HVAC industry is a worldwide enterprise, with career opportunities including operation and maintenance, system design and construction, equipment manufacturing and sales, and in education and research. The HVAC industry had been historically regulated by the manufacturers of HVAC equipment, but Regulating and Standards organizations such as ASHRAE, SMACNA, ACCA, Uniform Mechanical Code, International Mechanical Code, and AMCA have been established to support the industry and encourage high standards and achievement.

Gas bill troubles with Landlord.?
Q. Right. We will try this again. We are renting a two story early 1900's as in before 1920's house. When we first moved in we were paying 40.00 in September and 60.00 in October and then 59.00 in November for our gas. We have been having a series of really cold weather and it has been freezing the pipes. We were instructed by the landlord and the plumber to run hot water to prevent the pipes from freezing. So, as instructed we did. Now our gas bill went from a 59.00 to a 191.00 gas bill. Yes, the gas is run by the hot water and explained to us where it is under the house. The owners of the house haven't replaced the pipes EVER in this house. They are the original pipes with the house and plumber was appauled when he saw the… [cont.]

A. It looks like you've done a good job of finding the specific law your landlord has broken. Now it's time to choose your remedy. Get the plumber to do an estimate, stating specific problems, and the proposed repair solution, with costs. Send a copy of the estimate to the landlord along with a neat copy of Section 118; Renters Rights, as written above to 'Specify the Breach'. Then I recommend you take option 1 and get out of there. Then show the paperwork to the city building inspector, who will promptly condemn the place as unfit for human habitation. This guy is a slumlord. Stick him where it hurts. In the pocketbook. You could also take any of the other three options as you see fit. Option 2 means pay the plumber yourself and deduct the… [cont.]

Ohio landlord responsibilities?
Q. According to the Ohio Landlord Tenant Act a landlord is obligated to Maintain in good and safe working order and condition all electrical, plumbing, sanitary, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning fixtures and appliances, and elevators, supplied or required to be supplied by him; With this said, our lease states that if anything breaks from the furnace to frozen pipes to the gas pipes we are responsible. I agree if we cause the damage we should pay for it. But furnace malfunctioning or a gas leak should not be our problem. I would have bought a house if I could have afforded to fix all these problems should they arise. My question is, if I sign the lease could I be held made to pay the repairs or is there an Ohio law that requires… [cont.]

A. It looks like you are signing yourself up for trouble- you sign your lease you get held to that lease. And even if you were to sue them to make it right? You would probably complicate the relationship. Id ask for sure on clarification- and if it really is this way- you really didnt find the place you need.

A. Depending on your location that seems like a reasonable asking price from a dealer. If it is not from a dealer or the condition is not the best then that would make a difference. I said a reasonable asking price NOT selling price. Offer them $3500 less and see what happens. Is it an LX? I assume so since you list it as having steel wheels with power windows. $7600 would be more like it. That is all the insurance company will give you if you totaled it. If it was an EX it would be worth $8300.00 Also, since the car is 7 years old demand proof that the timing belt was replaced or that they replace it. Honda timing belts should be replaced every 7 years or 90,000 miles whichever comes first. Don't back down. If they say no then just give… [cont.]
