Air conditioning is the cooling of indoor air for thermal comfort. In a broader sense, the term can refer to any form of cooling, heating, ventilation, or disinfection that modifies the condition of air. An air conditioner (often referred to as AC or air con.) is an appliance, system, or machine designed to stabilise the air temperature and humidity within an area (used for cooling as well as heating depending on the air properties at a given time), typically using a refrigeration cycle but sometimes using evaporation, commonly for comfort cooling in buildings and motor vehicles. The concept of air conditioning is known to have been applied in Ancient Rome, where aqueduct water was circulated through the walls of certain houses to cool them. Similar techniques in medieval Persia involved the use of cisterns and wind towers to cool buildings during the hot season. Modern air conditioning emerged from advances in chemistry during the 19th century, and the first large-scale electrical air conditioning was invented and used in 1902 by Willis Haviland Carrier. We might be moving into a huge 2,000 sq ft warehouse loft next month, but it does not have air conditioning. We have a dog and 2 cats. We live in Philadelphia so it gets hot in the summer. There is a huge fan up on the high ceiling and we will probably put an air conditioner in the window in the bedroom area, since there are walls around the bedroom. For the most part, it wont be air conditioned. I am worried that the dog will pass out or get over-heated. Should I be worried? Asked by Jessica R - Thu Apr 10 17:00:20 2008 - - 13 Answers - 0 Comments A. Dogs and cats can overheat easily. Use a floor fan along with the ceiling fan. You can also buy air conditioners that can roll around the house. Keep plenty of fresh water out so they can hydrate. Anyone have more reasons? Asked by Spades25 - Wed May 6 21:09:08 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. It can get really hot and some schools get let out early or even canceled due to the heat. With air conditioning schools don't have to worry about that and the student's learning won't get interupted or stalled. It could also be a step towards having school year round. But I love summer vacation so I don't really see that as a good thing though..
