Q. i have acura integra 1994 rs when i turn on the AC it blows out hot air. any ideas wat the problem could be?

A. its broken.. out of freon,compressor dead,bad wiring, you need to take it in..

My central air conditioner died at the start of triple digit temperatures. Should I repair or replace?
Q. My central air conditioner is 20 years old, although I replaced a $600 part about 3 years ago. Is it time to replace the entire unit and if so, what brands are best in terms of reliability and "energy star" efficiency? Should I use single room units instead? I would be happy without having the whole house cool, if that would be more energy efficient. I live in Pasadena, southern California, if that makes a difference.

A. Yup, I would agree it`s a perfect time to get a TRANE brand air condo unit. They are very reliable and the newer ones are very power efficient. If you get the same size unit, all you need to do is replace the outside unit. You can buy one at your local heating shop and install it yourself, but for warranty work I would have them install it and add the freon to it, or what they call charging it.

When does an air conditioner go bad and when does the coils go bad?
Q. We have an air conditioner and the air conditioner has not been used in six yrs because we moved. We came back and the freon had evaportated out and we had some more put in September and again in April The fan blows and air comes out the vents. There are ant piles near it. Could the ants have gotten into it and stopped it for working? Also the pipe outside freezes up and so does the one inside. What could the problem be?

A. Almost certainly you have a refrigerant leak. The company who charged the refrigerant should have and can check for leaks. I would suggest a different company come out and check for and repair any leaks and recharge your system. The freezing is almost certainly low refrigerant charge.
